Some family abandoned babies that are born blind but few are strong enough to live and nourish their blind child as a strong willed man in the future. We thought that they are not capable to do things like normal people but we were mesmerized by the fact that they don't have eyes that can work steadily, in the end, blind men show us that they can do like a regular person. I encountered fe How many children are blind? I encountered few blind people and they were strong and nice people. They valued life and live life to the fullest but there are people who do not value them and recognize them as normal. I pity those people and I'm glad I'm not one of them.

Michael Hingson, an extraordinary man, is the subject of this exemplary book, a tribute to his triumph over blindness and to his wonderful guide dog, Roselle, a Golden Retriever - Labrador Retriever mix, who help Michael and his friend David descend 78 floors 20 steps down, landing, turn, 19 steps down of the North Tower when the World Trade Center was attacked by Muslim extremists September 11, Micheal's background is integrated into the story of his flight from the Tower.
He was raised by parents who made few concessions to his blindness.
For example, though totally blind, he was allowed to bicycle freely in his small California town of Palmdale. He had a panoply of hobbies. He went on through conventional high school and on to University of California at irvine, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics.
Michael's wife, paraplegic from birth, is another impressive person in this story. Theirs is a marriage to admire. As over a thousand other reviewers have attested here, this is an inspiring book, well worth reading.
Congratulations, too, to Michael's co-author Dual story--a man, Michael Hingson and a dog, Roselle. In fact several dogs that served a man who was blind from birth. The man's story is one of a child who was raised to "do everything" like ride a bicycle, drive a car with supervision , and tackle a difficult college program leading to a degree in physics.
As for the dogs story, this is one of the best descriptions I have read about the raising and training of Guide Dogs. So many of the dogs qualify because of their personalities and eager willingness to do their job. Roselle helped not only Michael down 78 flights of steps in the World Trade Center tower, she also helped many others with her calmness and dedication.
Even after the collapse of the tower, she helped guide on the dusty street and used her instincts to lead several to safety. There is now a Roselle's Dream Foundation the goal of which is to "help today's blind children and adults have access to the technology the need to excel in school and at work and to live out their dreams".
This was a remarkable, informative and captivating true story. Thunder DOG is built on the true loyalty, devotion and compassion of a blind man and his remarkable guide dog Roselle. This story is insightful, inspirational and brings such educated awareness regarding the blind and the training of a Guide Dog. I thoroughly enjoyed this read from beginning to end. Informative, encouraging, educational, compassionate, trustworthy, loving and insurmountable bonding from the physical aspect to the emotional as well as the instinctive.
From, Lin. I've learned quite a bit from this book. I've learned how blindness doesn't have to be considered a handicap. I liked learning first hand what it's like and how to act if I encounter someone who is blind. Roselle was an amazing dog! Thank you, Michael, for writing this book. It is a very informative and inspiring book.
This is more than a book about survival through teamwork of man and his guide dog. It also is a very informative and inspiring book, inspiring as here is s man blind since birth who refers to it a nuisance rather than a tragedy and informative with numerous resources both for the blind and those seeking information.
In a world of many people with a mentality of victimhood here is a man who declares his normality in a of the sighted. On apersonal note, my mother was very brave in her time of decreasing vision due to macliar degeneration. Mom took advantage of the great services of the Braille Institute audiobooks books. Should I be challenged with similar vision loss, I pray that I am as strong as my mom was.
Misleading title. It is an ego-centric exercise padded, padded and padded some more with lectures and a timeline you can google-search yourself. See all 1, reviews.
