This book is really good in terms of explaining the concepts in a very in-depth and thorough way. However, improvements can be made.

Second, the exercises are not very accessible. There's too many of them, and if you are learning the material independently, it's really hard to choose which ones you should solve. As a total nerd who also minored in mathematics, I found that studying Fourier Transforms within the topic of Mathematics did a better job of explaining the techniques found in here.

But definitely don't pay for a hardcover of this. The paperback is identical. This book is a classic, its easy to read and yet quite technical. I bought the international edition and it is a great download considering that it is almost exactly the same as the standard one some end of chapter problems are different but at a fraction of the price. If you couple this book with the lecture videos of Oppenheim himself, then you are going to learn a lot about signals and systems, highly recommended!

Not a fan of Oppenheim's writing style, but the book contains everything you need to understand signals and systems. Read with care as there is little notice in the form of bold letters, etc. A lot of info contained in the worked examples.

If you skip them you'll miss a lot of the book's content. Beware Oppenheim sources his examples from a variety of sciences. Don't get intimidated - you don't actually need to understand what's going on besides the math.

I read this book to learn some fundamental things. This book can be treated as a first book in learning Signals and systems, and other courses such as discrete time signal processing, contral systems and communication systems are based on the material taught in this book.

In this book, the author not only introduce the continuous time signal, but also its discrete counterpart in great detail. The organization of this book is also really great.

But I read chapter 9 and 10 right after finfsh reading the first 6 chapters, because I think it is better to know all the theory first.

Then, it would be easier to understand its applications. Also, It is really easy to understand the meaning even for a student whose monther tongue is not English like me!
